While pursuing my master’s in Environmental Science, my interest in the field of public health and epidemiology started when I noticed how poor air quality was impacting millions of people in my home country, Pakistan, and the victims didn’t seem to care, neither did the authorities, because there wasn’t sufficient evidence to highlight the issue. I took it up as my master’s research and haven’t looked back since.
My interest in the urban environmental risk factors to human health led me to eventually pursue a PhD at Utrecht University as part of the SURREAL consortium. I am very interested in learning more about exposure assessment and how exposure can actually vary between different population groups living in one city resulting in differences in health outcomes between those groups. I believe that reliable research can work wonders in the improvement of public health. If my research can bring us a little bit closer to environmental justice, I will consider it a success.
In my free time, I love to watch movies and visit museums.
